Now that I’ve graduated from the University of Texas with my Bachelor’s degree, I’ve had time to reflect on my college journey, one filled with challenges, growth, and unforgettable experiences. It wasn’t just about earning a degree; it was about developing resilience, discovering my passion, and learning to navigate the unexpected turns life often takes.

A Journey of Personal Growth and Resilience
My college journey began at the University of Tennessee, where I studied Political Science and Sociology. However, during that time, my life took an unexpected turn when my mom became seriously ill. I made the decision to leave Tennessee and return home to support her, which wasn’t an easy choice. Balancing the emotional weight of caring for my mom while managing academic responsibilities and working two jobs each semester to support her financially tested my limits. It taught me invaluable lessons in time management, perseverance, and the importance of family.
Despite the difficulties, this experience built my character and resilience—qualities I continue to carry with me today. It reminded me that the most important thing is to keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles, and that growth often comes from the hardest moments.
A New Chapter at the University of Texas
After transferring to the University of Texas, I found a renewed focus. I majored in Sociology with a minor in Law, Justice, and Society. This academic journey deepened my understanding of social issues and legal systems, but it also sparked a new interest in the power of communication and how it shapes society.
In addition to my studies, one of the most defining moments of my undergraduate experience was studying abroad in Italy. Living in a new country, learning a new language, and immersing myself in a different culture helped broaden my worldview and taught me how to adapt to unfamiliar situations. It was a life-changing experience that reinforced my desire to pursue a career in communications.
Continuing My Education: Pursuing a Master’s Degree
Now, as I embark on the next chapter of my academic journey, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic Communication with a focus on sports at the University of Texas. This program is an exciting opportunity for me to further hone my communication skills and deepen my understanding of the sports industry. I’m passionate about the intersection of communication, media, and sports, and I’m eager to develop the tools I need to work in this dynamic field.
The decision to pursue a master’s degree is driven by my desire to expand my knowledge and contribute meaningfully to the evolving sports communication landscape. Whether it’s through managing media relations, working with sports teams, or telling powerful stories, I am excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead.
The Road Ahead: Ready for What’s Next
As I look ahead to the future, I am filled with excitement and gratitude for everything I’ve learned so far. The challenges, experiences, and lessons from my time in college—both personal and academic—have shaped me into the person I am today. They’ve prepared me for the next step in my career, and I am eager to continue growing as a professional in the sports communication field.
I am thankful for the support I’ve received from my family, friends, professors, and mentors who’ve been by my side through it all. I’m excited to apply everything I’ve learned and continue developing the skills I need to succeed in this next phase of my academic and professional journey.
